About Southern Colorado Action

Southern Colorado Action is a Colorado independent expenditure committee (IEC) led by a board of business investors. We give individual businesses a direct, compliant role in state elections across Southern Colorado.

Transparency

SoCo Action files contribution and expenditure reports with the Colorado Secretary of State. Our reports are publicly available through the state's TRACER campaign finance system.

What Is an Independent Expenditure Committee?

An IEC communicates directly with voters about candidates and issues. It operates separately from candidates and political parties and is governed by strict state campaign finance laws.

SoCo Action does:

  • Conduct independent voter education and advocacy

  • Communicate the business community's perspective on state-level issues

  • Support pro-business candidates for state office through its own independent programs

  • Report its contributions and expenditures publicly to the Colorado Secretary of State

SoCo Action does not:

  • Coordinate with any candidate, campaign, or political party

  • Contribute directly to candidates

  • Engage in local races

Who Participates

SoCo Action is built for businesses that want to play a more active role in shaping Colorado's policy environment. Businesses and corporations of every size, from family-owned companies to the region's largest employers, participate as investors.

Governance

SoCo Action is governed by its own board of directors. Investors at the Board Seat level hold a seat on the board, and Major Investors are eligible for at-large seats. The board sets SoCo Action's priorities, decides which races to engage in, and directs how resources are deployed.

Independent By Design

Independence is the foundation of everything we do. SoCo Action operates under a written firewall and non-coordination policy that keeps our decisions separate from candidates, campaigns, and political parties.

Our Relationship with the Southern Colorado Business Alliance

SoCo Action is affiliated with the Southern Colorado Business Alliance (SCBA), a separate political action committee of Chambers of Commerce. The two organizations have separate boards and separate funds, and each makes its own decisions. Chambers participate through the SCBA; businesses participate through SoCo Action.
